5 Things to do and see in Manila

Philippines: 5 Things to do and see in Manila

Quoi voir à Manille Philippines: 5 choses à faire et à voir à Manille

Some info and facts about Manila

First thing to knowManila is actually called Manila. Manila is the Anglicized version of his real name (as Peking = Beijing). It is the capital of the Philippines, and one of the most densely populated city in the world with 43,079 inhab. / Km ².
Ilya 1.6 million people in Manila itself, and about 11 million in Metro Manila (around Manila). It is located on the west coast of the island of Luzon.
Manila is the name of Spanish origin, itself derived from the Tagalog word 'nilad', a mangrove tree type that gives white flowers.
The country was colonized by the Spanish you can see many remnants of colonial architecture. She was also very bombed pendant WWII.
For a first trip to the Philippines, especially if it's your first trip to Asia, be prepared for a shock: there is a lot of poverty. You'll see kids begging, maimed, prostitution and very grimey corners. The pollution is very high, the atmosphere is dirty, you have to be careful not to get ripped off, there are plenty of pick pocket and public transport are messy to use when you do not know.
The Manila airport called Ninoy Aquino International Airport and certainly by this that you will get. It lies about 7 km south of Malate, the neighborhood where there hotels and backpacker hostels. It is among the worst airport in the world, and there have been many times I can confirm 100%: in fact it is mostly the terminal 1 which is horrible, terminal 3 is new and pretty good but the staff is really incompetent (not everyone thankfully).

After three days in Manila I was eager to go, but there are some interesting areas to visit and it is a good starting point if you need to go shopping for the rest of your trip. Everyone speaks English where almost, which is a big plus.

Where to sleep and eat in Manila?

The backpacker district of Manila where you will find all the hotels, inns, currency exchange, etc ... is called 'MALATE. It is north of the airport. It's the perfect place to stay if you come to Manila because it is not very far from the most interesting corners. I speak

What to visit in Manila

This is essential to do and see in Manila if you need a place to stay things:

1 –The island of Corregidor

Que faire à Manille Corregidor1 Philippines: 5 choses à faire et à voir à Manille

That's reason number Uno spent a few days in Manila: This is also why I stayed in Manila rather than going to the rice fields in the North (anyway I have not had time to do it in three days).

Corregidor is an island where they have spent fighting between the Americans and the Japanese army during World War II. This really is a must do if you go to Manila, especially if you are an avid World War II or a fan of Call Of Duty. In addition to the ferry that takes you there is not very far from Malate, it's about 30 minutes walk.

Also, if you go there on foot you can also walk along Manila Bay, a walk by the sea (if you walk westwards from Malate). Chlingue it a little but it is interesting to see.

2 – Intramuros

Que faire à Manille Intramuros Philippines: 5 choses à faire et à voir à Manille

The old walled city of the Spanish settlers and American settlers. It is not very far either Malate, so you can visit in one day. It was destroyed partially during the bombing of the second world war and rebuilt in the 50 Places to see the most interesting Intramuros are:
  • The San Augustine church look at the ceiling inside, it has a raised effect amazing. It is relaxed place to be.
  • Fort Santiago (north of Intramuros): nice to visit but worth less kick without a guide to explain the place.
  • Cathedral Manila closed in February 2014 because of the construction was in progress. But it's worth a look from the outside.

3 – Rizal park

Que faire à Manille Rizal Park Philippines: 5 choses à faire et à voir à Manille

Located ten minutes walk south of Intramuros. Fun to do and you are forced to miss if you're going to walk to Intramuros from the hotel district of Malate. Some greenery in Manila, it's good.

4 – Go shopping

Que faire à Manille Shopping Philippines: 5 choses à faire et à voir à Manille
For shopaholics, you'll be spoiled! Robinson Square is the largest mall in the center of Manila and is a five minute walk from the backpacker district. You'll find restaurant, supermarket, clothing stores, there's even a Daizo (Japanese-style stores where everything is 80 pesos).

If that's not enough you can go to Mall of Asia, from the center by cons and harder to access. I went on foot from Malate, I took an hour and a half (I lost by against). It lies south of Malate. It is huge and is part of the largest shopping centers in Asia. There is even a skating rink inside and Imax cinema.

SM Megamall is even bigger it seems but I'm not gone. It is located in Ortigas Business District.

5 – See cockfights

Que faire à Manille Combats de coqs Philippines: 5 choses à faire et à voir à Manille

For those with a strong stomach and the sight of blood does not bother! Unfortunately I could just take a picture of the outside as it was closed the day I went. Take the Tram to Libertad StationAsk people on the street where the 'Cockpit' and they give you directions. Beware, it is closed on Thursdays and Saturdays. It's open to foreigners without problem, the input is 20-30 on the road pesos.Vous see many shops selling special food for fighting cocks.

10 islands to explore unfamiliar

10 islands to explore unfamiliar

1. Palau

Palau, a small nation of Micronesia, more like a string of large green mushrooms as an archipelago. In any case it evoked their Rock Islands, a group of over 200 islands lush limestone, interspersed with azure waters and fringed with white sand. The place is conveniently discovered by kayak, but if you're tired of paddling, you can always throw you into the water to let you float on top of one of the most beautiful underwater scenery in the world (according to Jacques Cousteau ...). And for an even more singular moment, go snorkeling in the Jellyfish Lake, where millions of these gelatinous creatures - who lost their stinging power - are engaged in a magnificent aquatic ballet.
Palau International Airport on the island of Babeldaob, is served from Taipei (4:55), Guam (1 hour 45) and Manila (2:35).

2. Tonga

Tonga is not a classic tropical paradise. Certainly, its 170 islands are scattered in a dream on the intense blue of the South Pacific. Sparkling sand beaches are dotted with palms and swim in waters that invite irresistibly to check it. But it is also the last kingdom in this region of the world, where globalization has not quite leveled Polynesian traditions: people still weave mats, wear tupenu (sarongs) and chat while sipping kava (traditional drink made from macerated roots). The islands of Ha'apai is distinguished by its deserted beaches and beautiful snorkeling spots; that of Niuas is even more wonderful and secluded. Vava'u is preferred by humpback whales. Each year they come to breed in its waters, to the delight of visitors.
Humpback whales migrate to Tonga in early July about the end of October; the get up close requires strict rules.

3. Sao Tome and Principe

Located in the center of the world but not in the middle of the road traveler, the islands of Sao Tome and Principe, all close to the equator, form the smallest state, and perhaps the least known of Africa. Owned a chain of extinct volcanoes, they hide in the Gulf of Guinea, west of Gabon - why so few tourists unearth. Those who do are yet amply rewarded: miles of beaches that only tread the fishermen, a hinterland of rainforest covered spot a peak of 2,024 m which can make the climb, turtles and humpback whales frequenting their waters, hotels built in the homes of decrepit colonial plantations crossed a gentle breeze ...
The dry season is from June to September, the wet season from October to May; the humpback whales between July and October.

4. Trinité-and-Tobago

Thousands of birds, steelband orchestras, street food, multiculturalism, rainforest and carnival furious ... This Trinidad. It is the spirit of the Caribbean in all its most exhilarating, authentic, with this peculiarity that the island has barely a few nice stretches of sand instead of real beaches. Here it is not lounging in paradise but rather to live it. In addition, the island of Tobago fills this gap perfectly. The western part has almost pristine shores fringed with palm trees, where tourism remains discreet. In the east, up to lush flora, forests populated alligators and other animals, and a coastline with hidden coves where you feel like shipwrecked.
The dry season is from December to May, the rainy season from June to November. The islands are outside the hurricane belt - which nevertheless affect them from time to time.

5. Cook islands

Captain Cook would be proud. The archipelago of 15 islands named after the explorer, which includes some of the most beautiful postcard paradise of the South Pacific, are strikingly beautiful - impossible to remain unmoved by the cerulean blue of the lagoon of Aitutaki. Lost in the middle of an ocean of 165 million km2, not far from the French Polynesia, they could not be more distant. Warning: those who manage to reach them for walks in the jungle, kayaking to a private atoll, or lazy, have a hard time to leave.
Air New Zealand offers direct weekly flight from Los Angeles. From French Polynesia, there are one or two flights a week depending on the season with Air Tahiti and Air Rarotonga (2h30 flight).

6. Papua New Guinea

The spectacular, steamy and wild landscapes of Papua New Guinea are home to over 190 species of mammals, 650 species of birds, 160 varieties of frogs, and they speak 820 languages. This is simply one of the wildest places, the richest in biodiversity and the most unique in the world. Some ethnic groups live in the Highlands (Papua Wigmen Tari). Do not ignore the coast as far as the reef slopes at dizzying plunge just meters from beautiful beaches depths. Dive sites and snorkeling among the most extraordinary ...
The few roads are in poor condition, transportation is a challenge. Domestic flights and organized tours are the easiest solution. Check the security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before leaving.

7. Cape Verde

A former Portuguese colony, near the West African and Latin ambiance evoking Brazil, the islands of Cape Verde are unclassifiable. Also difficult to locate on a map, as it is located some 500 km off the coast of Senegal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Ten in number, they range from striped island of lava Fogo Santo Antao and lush valleys. But the best beaches are those of Boa Vista, an almost entirely sandy island similar to that of the Sahara dunes undulate inside, while a beautiful white sand stretches to the horizon on the windy shores, which attract surfers, windsurfers and kitesufeurs.
Boa Vista is an important nesting site for loggerhead turtles; the best time to see them is from June to September.

8. Grenade

It might just come in this lovely "spice island" of the Caribbean, take up residence in Grand Anse (with a range of 3 km) and let live: the sand is fine, the beach bars are animated, restaurants well stocked with fish, seafood and ice nutmeg. It would be a shame, because the mountainous interior of the island of Wind reserve amount of pools and waterfalls where cool, and the coast of numerous creeks and coves ideal for swimming and snorkeling in peace. To the north, the island of Carriacou, which is reached by ferry, is even more isolated. Its pristine beaches are accessible only by hiking or sailing. African culture, including music - percussion and rhythms of calypso ennivrants - is still very abundant.
Up to three daily flights between Grenada and Carriacou; the ferry takes 1 hour 30 minimum.

9. Curious and Aldabra, Seychelles

No "list of the most beautiful beaches in the world" omits the Seychelles. This archipelago of 115 islands scattered in the Indian Ocean has it all: abundant coral and fish in crystal clear waters; a deliciously soft sand underfoot; wild and lush hinterland; even coconut sea and famous coco de mer are attractive ... The three main islands (Praslin, La Digue and Mahe) are perfectly beautiful. Yet the curious island and its giant tortoises, is perhaps even more, not to mention the coral atoll of Aldabra. Uninhabited, it is the home of the largest population of giant tortoises in the world, but also the green turtles, sharks, coconut crabs and many other species.
The Seychelles International Airport is 8 miles south of Victoria on Mahé. Ferries run regularly between Praslin, La Digue and Mahe.

10. Saint Vincent and Grenadines

Calculate your budget well, choose a boat. These are the keys to discover this beautiful chain of islands located in the southeast Caribbean. If you have deep pockets, go private yacht in the beautiful vast green to beautiful St. Vincent Grenadines, small in size, big in charm. Those who do not have the means to make a nabob of hops by ferry. Join people with luggage and poultry ranging from St. Vincent in lively waterfront Bequia, Canouan of fine sand, the rugged Union Island and Mayreau languid; there, the Tobago Cays deserts (where have failed one Jack Sparrow) are emerging nicely to the east.

10 things you should absolutely do in Singapore

10 things you should absolutely do in Singapore

Singapore is one of the major hubs of the South-East and the city is also on the route of kangaroos. So it is very common to see friends / family / former colleagues come around for a few days in the city-state while they are passing through the area.
Obviously all French Singapore are ground to such visits (almost monthly) and each with its own golf suggests that guests pass (with variations often minimal).
So what are the inevitable to do if you are visiting Singapore things?

10 things to do in Singapore absolutely

    • #1 Marveling at Gardens By The Bay : Meet at Pandora, certainly one of the most spectacular places in Singapore. Both domes offer different experiences and nice but you can also just sit outside and admire the giant trees.
Gardens by the Bay à Singapour
    • #2 Admirer la Cité-Etat depuis le haut de Marina Bay Sands : even if only to get a view of what Singapore and also see the infinite pool on top of MBS which unfortunately is not available (except for hotel guests).
    • #3Drink in one-altitude : evening to have a panorama of Singapore at night. The most beautiful night view of the city-state (by not make secure against the Singapore Sling as Cocktail).
    • #4 Eating dim sum at Din Tai Fung : unavoidable with restaurants throughout Singapore, offering excellent dim sum, often imitated and rarely matched (especially taking into account the correct prices). If you could make a meal in Singapore, go to Din Tai Fung.
Préparation de Dim Sum à Din Tai Fung
    • #5 Visit The Singapore City Gallery : a lot of people wonder why this place is a must in Singapore. Simply because it is the best place (much more than the National Museum to me) to be aware of the Singaporean success but also the organization of the authorities of the island. A must and it is free and it pleases everyone.
Singapore City Gallery
    • #6 Getting lost in Chinatown : many shop houses (traditional houses), and also the perfect venue for small memories gadgets (magnets, key chains, ...). If you do not know what to bring to Singapore, please lirecet article.
    • #7 Shopping in Haji Lane : one of the alternative areas of Singapore that offer a lot of independent shops. Moreover Haji Lane is located in the neighborhood of Malay town and offers an alternative vision of the little-known city-state: that of shop houses and small streets that contrast with the austere and cold image of downtown.
    • #8 An evening at the Night Safari : it remains one of the most popular attractions of the city-state that appeals to families.
    • #9 Take the cable car from Mount Faber and Sentosa :for two things, see the container port from the sky (which is super awesome) and then climb up to Mount Faber to enjoy the true Singapore, the HDB of sight. It also helps to go to Sentosa to take a quick look at this theme park / tourist trap that is usually overpriced (you have been warned).
Cable Car Singapore à Harbour Front
