Travel to mexico

"Can we go to Mexico safe?" In this recurring question, we answer invariably is yes, provided you select destinations and be well informed.

Despite an increase in the number of murders related to drug cartel, mainly concentrated in the northern border areas, tourism has increased slightly in Mexico since 2010 Many potential visitors nevertheless merely pass through Mexico - even not to leave their boat when they step in places like Cozumel, generally untouched by crime.

Before dismissing any idea of living in Mexico, be aware that much of the land is not on the list of not recommended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regions or sectors generally visited by tourists (Cabo, Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum, Mexico, Oaxaca, San Miguel de Allende, etc.).

Here are eight areas to visit without stress.

1.Mexico

Difficult to imagine a more fascinating than the capital city of Mexico misunderstood. With a population of over 21 million (and a crime rate three times lower than in Washington, DC), Mexico has got a facelift for its bicentennial, so that places like Plaza Garibaldi, stormed by mariachis are now considered safe enough to embody a "Disney Version" of their rough past (like Times Square in New York). Furthermore, many colonial buildings feature details long obscured by pollution. This historic town, built on the remains of a dry lake, attractions include - among other things thousand - Aztec canals, pyramids, the workshop painters Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, as well as chic restaurants and trendy neighborhoods Condesa and Polanco.

Enjoy a twenty-first-century style in the great Red Tree House, a B & B Condesa built in an ultra elegant residence 1930s Rooms from USD $ 79.

2.Mérida

At four in Cancun, slightly inward land Merida (Yucatan) embodies the "real Mexico." This colonial city of 750,000 inhabitants, beloved Mexicans and close to several places of excursions, is not only an underestimated seaside step. This is also in itself a destination. The city appears at its best on weekends when its historic heart - a landscape of the seventeenth century cathedrals in Mayan brick - close to traffic and packed with outdoor scenes, from taco stands and other entertainment . By day, the Ruta Puuc offers a small unguided tour bus, which borrows Uxmal Mayan and four other sites of interest. Northwest, you can visit the mangroves populated pink flamingos of Celestun, a fishing village.

Los Arcos is a friendly B & housed in a XIXth century B, with a swimming pool in the courtyard and artistically decorated.

3.Todos Santos

If you do not know the place - which is the case for the majority of visitors - check Todos Santos on the list of destinations to visit in Baja California. Certainly, some people will tell you that the city, a victim of its success (and an American / Mexican balanced ratio) is no longer what it was. Yet in southern Baja California (incidentally, one of the safest states in Mexico), the place well beyond Cabo San Lucas - and condominiums - in terms of tranquility and relaxation. Located two hours drive from the airports of Cabo and La Paz, Todos Santos is home to a colony of artists against the backdrop of mountains and famous for surfing beaches. You can easily rally Cabo San Lucas Drive, enjoy the bar Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen singer) and boat trips and return to the quiet night. Note that the corner of Hotel California claims to have inspired the title track (which is not true, but do not tell).
Surf the Pescadero Surf Camp, which offers courses and a floating bar - plan your own drinks. If you are looking for comfort above all, Posada La Posa is one of the most charming inns of Baja California

4.San Miguel de Allende

North of Mexico (and two hours from the airport of Leon), San Miguel de Allende seems obvious, and for good reason. This city, the favorite of American expats among the mining towns of the central highlands, is splendid. Here, the war of drug dealers evokes a distant rumor. The city itself - as we can see in Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Robert Rodriguez - is the main attraction of the area. World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2008, this city of 62,000 souls is full of craft shops, cathedrals of the seventeenth century, botanical gardens, restaurants relying on organic farms and adorable pensions (sometimes luxurious).
In addition, San Miguel is a good place for Spanish lessons and cooking. Housed in a colonial building, Academia Hispano Americano is a good example (can stay in guest houses).

5. Huatulco

If you are looking for a complex, Huatulco offers a rather unique success story in the history of the resort management. In recent years, a strong project-friendly development that spared much of the 20 miles of beach and limited the height of buildings to six stories in town, this former fishing village has become a favorite place of the state Oaxaca. Activities (snorkeling, diving, kayaking, surfing, biking and rafting) and excursions (waterfalls, coffee plantations, etc.) are sufficiently numerous and accessible to occupy visitors for several days. Huatulco is serviced by the airplane from the airport in Mexico City and Oaxaca.

For our authors, the Camino Real Zaashila a hotel combines the hacienda style and Mediterranean influences, is one of the very best places in the Pacific coast. Most rooms at the heart of a beautifully landscaped area, feature a private pool.

6. Playa del Carmen

About visionary seaside towns, Playa del Carmen, east of the Yucatan Peninsula, provides almost perfect antithesis to the Zona Hotelera Cancun. Equipped with direct bus to Cancun airport, pedestrian Quinta (the "fifth avenue" where better watch his belongings in the late evening) is lined with bars, clubs, taco stands and souvenir kitsch . Moreover, the place is located not far from the sea. If the place is touristy (especially when the cruise ships are in port), one can easily walk to most remote north beaches where crystal clear water offers some of the best snorkeling sites in the world (the ultimate waiting off the nearby island of Cozumel, accessible by boat). You can also rent a car to tour the cenotes and offer a surreal swim in one of these natural limestone wells.

A few blocks from the main street, the Hotel is a charming Kinbe address middle class. This property whose owners are Italian, enjoys an airy rooftop terrace and a beautiful yard.
Guanajuato, Mexique

7. Guanajuato

Beautiful mountain town populated cathedrals of the sixteenth century of brightly colored houses and squares lined with laurels, Guanajuato ideally visit in October, when Cervantino Festival - a major cultural event showcasing orchestras, ensembles folk, mariachi, Moroccan folk, punk bands from Mexico or of modern art. Most of these shows are free. Throughout the year, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this colonial city, its museum mummies, as well as the proximity to San Miguel de Allende. Guanajuato is located 30 minutes from the airport of Leon del Bajio, and five hours by bus from Mexico City.

Several schools, such as the Escuela Mexicana (www.escuelamexicana.com) offer Spanish classes and homestays. Failure to participate in a puppet workshop with Mika Matsuishi and Felipe Olmos (lunamika47@hotmail.com).

8. Puebla

Mini Mexico "1.5 million, Puebla is a marvel of a colonial city with its many cathedrals and a wonderful museum dedicated to antiques. Surprisingly, it is infinitely more accessible and relaxed than its size would suggest. Prefer absolutely historic center for sleeping, covered with buildings azuelos (glazed tiles) and its many institutions serving the local taco árabe, marinated pork served on a flat bread of Middle Eastern style (Las Ranas test, Av Pte 2 102). The more adventurous will order escamoles (ant larvae sautéed in butter, citing rice grains). Puebla is located two hours by bus from Mexico City.
